1st 100% Woo-Chang Member... Mackenzie Jessilyn Chang!!!
To begin with, the night before we had gone over to my in-laws to pickup some ginseng chicken soup. My in-laws had specifically made the soup to help move along my wife's contractions. (believe me, that stuff really works) According to my father in-law, who had looked up the Chinese calendar, the best time to have our child would be June 25th between the hours of 3-5pm. Pretty specific, eh? It had something to do with that day and time being the best possible combination of Chinese elements. Anyways we have dinner with my in-laws that night and she ends up drinking some of the soup there. Suzanne has a few contractions, but is fine and we drive home. When we get home she decides to drink more soup around midnight!!! I have no idea why except that I guess she was also hoping the baby came on the 25th, but couldn't she have waited until the morning???!!! I had work I wanted to finish up and I was actually counting on the baby coming late since almost all the kids on her side of her family all came late. Oh well, as you can guess the soup kicked in and her water broke at around 1AM. We waited a little bit, just to make sure it was the "real deal" then promptly drove to the hospital and arrived at around 3am. The next 13 hours of my life was filled graphic images I was never shown in sex education class. Labor is not pretty by all means and the worst part was watching the epideral shot. Here is a pic of the labor and delivery room in Kaiser SF.
"Mack.....(heavy breathing)....I am your father. Er I mean mother."
So it took 9 hours for her to fully dialate, then after 2-3 hours of trying to push the baby out naturally it was decided that the baby was too big and we needed to do a C-section. I believe within that span I must have seen at least 15-20 nurses/doctors total. Talk about "too many cooks in the kitchen"...
I held Suzanne's hand as they operated. A curtain was put up between us and the doctors so I wouldn't have the temptation to look. I was always taught it was more important to make sure a person was "beautiful on the inside", but this would be taking it too far. A few minutes later and there is was. A BABY'S CRY!!! Suzanne and I looked at each other and I could remember thinking "Oh sheeeit, I'm really a daddy!" I peered over the curtain and saw the long, yellow, rubbery umbilical cord and at the very end was our child covered in white muck. It looked literally like someone had dipped her in a bag of flour. Again, something that was not covered in sex ed... After the baby was cleaned, I got to cut off the rest of her umbilical cord and spent the next hour and half with her in the intensive care unit. Her are her official stats:
MACKENZIE JESSILYN CHANG
BORN: JUNE 25th, 2007
TIME: 4:32PM
WEIGHT: 8LBS 15.6 Ounces
LENGTH: 20 1/2 Inches
Yes, those chubby cheeks are definitely a "Woo" trait. Some say however the eyebrows and thick hair are definitely "Chang" traits. We were just happy to know we had a healthy baby with two arms, two legs, two eyes...etc. 8) After the nurse was done with her initial tests in the ICU it was finally time to reunite Mackenzie with her mother.
We held her, sniffed that oh so wonderful "newborn baby" smell, and changed her diapers for the very first time. Newborn baby poo resembles what I would say is sticky black tar. Wonderful, eh? They eventually moved us into our recovery room and we even got our first vistors! Angela and Gil were around so they made it right before the 8pm cutoff.
The first day with our child was exciting, exhilarating, and exhausting all at the same time. Needless to say I was running on fumes by the end of the day.
Here is the entire first day slideshow!!! 8)

Farewell to "Syn-City"...
Today was bittersweet. I got to hang out with Syndee who I haven't seen in ages, but it was to bid her farewell to "Syn-City" (fitting name, huh?) Las Vegas where she is moving. We met up with Jeff, Candace, and Tony at Zebulon downtown. The food there was a little disappointing as we almost ordered the entire menu due to the lack of selection. The sweet potato fries and mojitos however were excellent. A must if you ever go there. Here are some of my favorite pics I took with my camera.
Is that alcohol I see in Candace's glass???!!! 8)
More signs Candace can give Linsay Lohan a run for her money. You go partee-gurl!

After Zebulon, we drove around looking for dessert. Jeff had "previous obligations" so we had to stay close to downtown and ended up at Mel's Diner. Even though we were close, one mysterious phone call later and Jeff disappeared like magic. After Mel's I drove Syndee home and we said our good-byes. So long my good friend, but good luck to your new life in "SYN CITY"!!!
